“The album’s an arresting set of tracks that’ll stalk you from day one. Anthemic standouts “Heat Of The Night”, “When Two Hearts Collide”, “Taste The Bullet” and “Tear Down The Walls” keep the air punching’ foot tappin’ tempo alive and kickin’.”
Great review from Mark Redmayne at http://www.sleazeroxx.com/bands/valerie/valerie.shtml
Cast your eyes down the list of song titles on Valerie‘s self-titled debut album, check out the cover, stick the first track on, and if you’ve been listening to music long enough you might just dismiss them as yet another 80′s retro outfit plundering the treasures of the past only to serve up a chest full of ghosts. That’s OK by this band though — who tell us that their sound is ’1987 in 2012′ and it’s hard to argue with them.
The album’s an arresting set of tracks that’ll stalk you from day one. Anthemic standouts “Heat Of The Night”, “When Two Hearts Collide”, “Taste The Bullet” and “Tear Down The Walls” keep the air punching’ foot tappin’ tempo alive and kickin’. Producer Bard Torstensen has made this band sound formidable while guitarists BT Valerie andMagnus Christiansen provide an imposing display of riffery and finely crafted solos that consistently excite but never indulge. The rhythm section of bassist Augustus Clark and skins man Erlend Omdal underpin the outfit and it’s clear that the band understands that it’s the song that carries the music.
At only eight tracks Valerie do well to favor quality over quantity, and a special mention must go to the evocative closing ballad “Love Is Not Enough” which would sit well on any Scorpions or Great White album and yet has that something special that gives these Norwegians a trademark sound. If you loved it then… you’ll love Valerie now.

1. Here’s a review from Glam Junkie’s Sleaze Ball (Australia): https://www.facebook.com/notes/glam_junkies-sleaze-ball/valerie-st-cd-review-2012/477602228916811
“…Fast forward a year and the arrival of Valerie’s debut self-titled album has delivered a melodic hard rock gem that should make fans of the genre sit up and take notice. Fronted by an ever charismatic BT Valerie, the band have pieced together a sensational album…”
“…Valerie aren’t looking to re-write the rule books of rock’n’roll, but they are serving up a wild dose of young love, summertime, …. and delivering it superbly. If this is only the beginning, one can only wonder what these guys will be serving up in the coming years!…”

Thanks to Mark Allen for this great review!
“Matter of fact, that is how the band advertises itself: “Valerie is 1987 in 2012.” It really cannot be said any better. This sounds like hair metal, looks like hair metal, and is possessed by the same pop-metal spirit that defined the burgeoning Sunset Strip scene back in the ‘80s. You can call this mousse abuse music if you want, but the word “abuse” really should not be applied to something that sounds this good.”
” Drop the top in your cherry-red convertible, pick up a bikini-clad hot chick to ride shotgun, race down the highway at speeds that qualify you for the pole position in the Indianapolis 500, and let the wind whip through your hair while Valerie provide the perfect summertime cruising soundtrack. ”
